Isn't it funny how when we get engrossed with a project or work, we
sometimes dream about it? I've been rebuilding a TR6 engine, and I've
been quite frustrated lately as I haven't been able to work on it much
since I broke my foot. Actually, that situation should change soon,
but damn it's cold!
Anyway, I've had alot of extra time to think about what can happen
when I start my engine for the first time. My subconscious must know
this, and as a result has decided to take advantage of my state of
mind and play tricks on me.
Last week, I had a dream about me *starting* my TR6 engine for the
first time. I turned the key, and it started right away! (yay!) So
after a minute, I said to myself, "Oh, Yeah! Rev it up to break in
the new cam!" So I gave it some gas, and the rpms slowly came up.
With my foot almost to the floor, the engine reached 3000 rpms. In my
dream I thought, "This isn't right, something is very wrong here." So
I killed the engine, and then I knew why the car was using so much
gas. I had forgot to put oil in the engine. No antifreeze either.
Oh boy. I had images of my bearing melting into my empty oil pan. I
awoke relieved that this was a dream...
Last night, I had another dream. I dreamed that I was (guess)
starting my TR6 engine for the first time. In this dream, I said to
myself, "OK, this is not a dream, remember to rev the engine up to
3000 rpms right away!" So I started the car and rev'ed it up.
Perfect! I was happy until... I realized that I hadn't put any oil in
the engine again! I killed the engine and checked the dip stick. It
wasn't dry, but just some bits of oil splashed on it. "Maybe I'm ok,
but I CAN'T Believe I forgot to put in oil after that dream I had, and
this time it's NOT a dream!", I said in my dream. Then I looked and
noticed that I hadn't put the radiator back in the car! What the hell
was I thinking about! Then I woke up.
You know, I've got to get this car on the road soon, or I'm going to
go crazy! Any of you had an experience like this? Pretty funny I
think, but I can tell you for sure, that I'm GOING to have plenty of
oil and antifreeze on hand when I start that sucker up. Unbelievable.
