I thank Mazada for marketing the Miata.
Up until the Miata came out, everyone thought the high production, affordable
roadster roadster was dead. I suspect the sucess of the Miata has all the
other car manufacturers rushing to design their own roadster for the masses.
I tend to think of the Miata as the MGB of the early nineties.
Due to the relativly small number of older roadsters that have survived, I
would hate to think that the masses would be deprived of the fun of driving
a roadster. Also, the masses probably don't want the insecurities &
headaches of owning an old roadster.
I think that there is room for everyone to get the most fun car that they want
& can afford. So what if the Miata could probably outrun & out corner my B.
Its a newer technology car with more HP. My B couldn't keep up with vintage
loti ether.
I think that the rediscovery of roadsters will only help us. Today's roadsters
are the future vintage cars maintained by dedicated eccentric individuals.
The British dropped the roadster for the masses, and it has laid unmoving for
too long. I thank anyone who picks it up and provides roadster fun to a new
generation.
On the other hand, I have taken offence to the large Miata provilion at the
Laguna Seca Vintage races. & feel very superior to thise hords of interlopers
walking the pits with Miata hats. And yet I get the feeling, that by
driving modern roadsters, the Miata people feel a connection to older race
cars. I would just a soon not see a large presence of a company whose cars
are not in the pits of vintage races as participants.
These company's should instead have a presence in the pits of modern races and
be content to show up at vintage races when their cars mature.
