Its amazing how much mail one can get from one little minor typo.

Yes, I did mean at the drive wheels, not at the rear wheels when talking about
the hot mini. I really do know they are fwd.... I do race one and it is
hard to forget. I look forward to riding in/driving the car once my friend
finishes going through it ( the previous owner had not driven it in 5 years.)

one final word from me about engine swaps. my porsche mechanic sol snyderman
of Perfect Power (our local RUF dealer also) has within the last month or so
finished slightly modifying his 85 VW Vanagon.

I knew he was working on it, and happened to be next door at the body shop
when I noticed a screech of tires and saw this brown vanagon accelerating
down the street with the rear end squatting under hard acceleration and the
nose up.

sol put a 3.2 carrera motor in it with carbs and free flow exhaust and a few
other mods (about 260 hp.) he did not change the transmission, so the gearing
is real short for that sort of power. He may have to carry spare transmissions
with him if he intends to drive it like he ususally does porsches. I
understand from his brother in law that they have already been out corvette
hunting and been successful. according to the varicom, the vanagon turns a
14.5 quarter mile at 96mph and 0-60 in the low 6s. the vanagon looks
basically stock except for the Ronal five spoke wheels with 195/60s. NO
weight was added as sol was able to remove all the water cooling plumbing and
just use a front oil cooler.
