I've recently finished building a fairly hot 1275 engine for my Austin
Mini. I'm running a Piper Magnum 285 cam and a Weber carb. The carb I
picked up used and it came with a manifold which I assumed would suffice.
It has a fairly steep curve on the manifold, raising 2 inches while only
extending out a total of 3. When it came time for tuning, I was told by
a local Mini guru that this manifold must go - it makes the car
untunable and will always result in cylinders 1 & 4 contributing very
little overall power.
Is this true? Is there a workaround for this particular manifold or do
I have to replace it? And if so, which one would you recommend? The
guru told me to go with the 5" manifold, but I can't find one locally.
Anyone have any North American addresses for places that will sell the
Janspeed (or better yet, a more reasonably priced clone) 5" manifold?
