DOT3 fluid doesn't treat British rubber seals the way they'd like to
be, so they deteriorate instead of swell. The result is crud in your
fluid and your fluid all over everything.

Moss and TRF sell lever shock fluid -- though I expect hydraulic jack
fluid would do in a pinch.
