All this talk about summer coming and rag tops being folded away is all
very well, but where's your sense of daring!

Five years ago I drove a Triumph Spitfire Mk IV. I had bought it in the
Autumn and didn't have much of a chance to drive it open except for the first
month. Come January, somebody in a Lotus Esprit Turbo decided that he didn't
like the Michelotti styling and did a special body 'alteration' at 30mph
(if you know what I mean!). For the next 4 years I drove a various succession
of beaten up saloons due to money and practical considerations. Everytime I
saw a LBC with the top down I yearned for the "Good Old Days". If I saw one
with the top up I considered confiscation!

I vowed to myself that when I could afford a decent car then I would make
use of the flappy roof on all possible occations. If it was above 10 degrees
Centigrade and not raining then the roof would come down!

Last year I bought a Triumph Herald 13/60 convertible and have so far kept
that promise to myself. Although I must admit that I get a few funny looks
from time to time!

The moral of this story: You only miss things when they're gone. Buy a big
jacket and a hat instead!!!

Love Neil.

p.s. Its lovely and sunny today so top down for the home journey. I think
I'll get some friends together for a picnic this weekend. I discovered this
amazing road the other week.. all up and down and around and around but
hardly any blind corners. (Twenty miles long as well).
