A few of you may remember how last year I sent out a couple of messages
detailing my thoughts and feelings on the sale of the Rust Rocket. The
way I justified the sale, the way I felt about the sale, the shine in the
eyes of the youthful new owner. Perhaps a few of you even recall the tales
of derring do I shipped across the net, tales of the Rust Rocket at full chat
on a summer's day.
For some odd reason, I felt compelled to stop by and visit the car last night.
You see, the chap who bought it drove it about for a few weeks, then had a
terrible racket come from the engine. He parked it outside the school where
he teaches, and it sat forlorn and forgotten all winter. Well, there was one
person in Salt Lake who drove by it on occasion, knowing it was there, with
a bit of hope. I had talked to the owner after I first saw it appear there,
the nose thrust in the air as it was sitting on some wooden blocks under the
front frame. He was going to wait until spring to fix it, he really wanted
to drive about in the beast once again. So I stopped on the way home last
night (honest, it really is on the way) for another look. Still sitting there,
the Team Fat sticker still on the back of the car.
This morning, during the daily ritual of the want ads, I saw this:
65 TR4, engine trouble. Great summer project, $500 or offer.
801-531-8031
That phone number is awfully familiar. Ayyone have $500 they don't need for a
month or two?
