A simple way of running the car in gear (and less dangerous)
is to jack up the rear of the car and then start the vehicle
in fourth gear. Then, with the wheels turning and the clutch
pedal depressed, hit the brakes. It worked for me on my
TR-3 about 20 years ago. The car sat for about one year
and the clutch disc stuck to the flywheel.
I used the above method and subsequently drove the car many
additional miles before needing a clutch. The greatest risk
in this method is doing damage to the clutch itself. Of course,
the alternative is to disassemble everything.
The reason I suggest starting the car in 4th is to minimize any
possible damage to the gearbox.
