|By the way, unless it's personal, could everyone please respond
|to questions publicly (to the mailing list).

Please note that the SOL mailing list has grown steadily over the last
few months to nearly 150 entries, about 10 of which are other lists. I'd
suggest that whenever you reply to someone else's request, you should first
consider whether it might interest everyone, and *then* consider whether to
answer privately or not. A few members have left the list because of the
volume (it doesn't bother me!). If everyone wrote every little old thing
that popped into his/her head, the wires would get loaded down pretty fast.
Don't be bashful, but do remember that we are a groooowing community.

| Since buying my 4A, I've rediscovered what driving is about. It's about
| experiencing the sights, sounds and smells of my car, the road...
|Chris - you've captured *exactly* how I feel about driving my Bugeye.
|There's nothing like that first top-down drive in the spring - full
|sensory overload after months of being cooped up inside.

Ain't that the truth! I finally took Percy off the road and I feel the
claustrophobia already. (Within a week or so, the temperature dropped about
to single digits, several serious ice/snow storms hit, 16 tons of salt was
dumped on the raods, and immediately prior to that, Percy (1) burned out a
headlight and (2) broke his headlight dip-switch [and they are expensive].)
Bummer.

|It's interesting: I just helped a friend buy a new car...
|Finally ended up with a Hyundai Sonata at quite a reasonable price.
|Now, this isn't a bad car -- it's bigger than my Mercedes was, has a/c,...
|tranny, fancy stereo. Driving with her is a real trip -- she's clearly
|in her element. And I can't understand why anyone would buy such a car
|-- I can't see myself ever doing so (not even a Jaguar).

I don't quite understand. You mean a car with AC, tranny, fancy stereo, etc.?
You mean a Hyundai or a M-B? Any anyway, Jaguar doesn't make either a Hyundai
or a M-B... About the new Lotus, maybe it *is* too heavy. But note that the
original Elan had a *Ford* block... Lotus's early claim to fame was how well
they tweaked and planned the use of other peoples' components. If they do a
better job than, say, Nissan or Toyota, at building a FWD GT-type car, then
they are doing their thing once again.

Drive carefully,
Jim Muller
