It sounds like a bad connection someplace, check the battery connections, the
chassis ground, the starter solenoid and the amp gauge connection, also rake
a
good look at the connectors for corrosion, if they are badly corroded they
will sometimes have a connection for small loads but fail on large loads like
the starter.
