Sven,

Mostly a matter of preference. I used to use them all the time. But several
years ago, there was a web page put up about oil filters, and Fram had problems
with their drain back valve and other things. So I quit using them.

It appears that the original web page has moved and been redone. The new
(update) version of that page is now at:

http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilterstudy.html

Inparticular is the section:

Reference Filter - original, most complete reference for the common
Chrysler/Ford filter.

They don't seem to be as down on Fram as they were in the original
web site.
