Amp gauge

I pulled my amp gauge out because it was determined to be shot.  A replacement
will be here soon.

Question:  Can I attach the red & black wires that go to the amp gauge
together without doing any damage to the car/electrical system?  I need to
drive the car to a body shop tomorrow to finish cleaning up the paint job.
