Attn John, and anyone else applicable...(others can ignore)
Browsing through the bills pre-filed in the Virginia General Assembly, I
ran across HB number 288, sponsored by Delegate Daniel W. Marshall, III
of Danville. I wonder what promped this, and it does not look good to
me at all. It seeks to reduce the distance an antique vehicle can be
driven from home for pleasure use from 250 miles to only 50 miles. It
also seeks to prohibit ANY work-related travel and ANY travel to a
work-site. Here is a link to the bill, showing the current law and how
it would look if changed:.

Although my antique vehicles spend most of their time garaged, I
generally travel more than 50 miles when I take them out. In fact, it
is about a 40 mile journey just to get out of the traffic of the
Northern Virginia metropolitan area. Terry's shop is 220 miles away,
and I think John is about 200 miles. Under the proposed bill, those
trips would be forbidden, or restricted to repair visits and club
events. It also concerns me that ANY work-related travel would be
prohibited, and a vehicle could NEVER be driven to a work site. These
are extreme measures, which would prohibit even stopping at the office
during a Sunday afternoon check-out drive. (Many people work long hours
and their office/job site is almost a second home to the point of
ordering and receiving car parts there, LOL)
Any thoughts about this? I noticed Tom Rust is on the House
Transportation Committee. Tom, are you on the e-mail list and getting
this? Thanks.
