Hi Steve,
I recently replaced the original muffler on my '75. I wanted to stay
'original' to some degree, but didn't find a muffler case as long as the
original. I investigated the Flowmaster and the Dynamax as possible
replacements, based on suggestions of BI members. Both are somewhat shorter
than the original, but are oval shapes, similar to the original. The
Flowmaster is very loud (too loud if you intend to drive the car much), and
its inlets/outlets are 2.5". Since the B's are 2", the conversion sleeves
have to be pretty radical -- they have to go from 2.5" to 2.25" to 2" on each
side - twice (inlet and outlet). However, with the Dynamax, it is a 2.25"
in-and outlet. This only required a single adapter on each end. By the way,
I outlined the whole procedure in a yet-to-be-printed article that John Blair
has (waiting for a future issue of the Brickline), complete with pictures.
The Dynamax is louder than the original, but it isn't too obnoxious to enjoy
the car, and has a fabulous throaty tone, especially when decelerating.
Good luck,
Smoky P.
