Subject: Owner Manual quotes
I was bored and skimming through the owner's manual and found some quotes I
found humorous:
"You can forget about rust-proofing or undercoating processes..."
==> ...because the doors leak so badly it won't help
"Paint is not used, thus eliminating fading or dulling of the finish."
==> Instead you'll have to replace or repair the cracked acrylic
every few years
In the event of a failure to the hydraulic doors, to open them: step 1:
"enter the car through the rear hatch"
==> Be sure to avoid crawling through all the hydraulic fluid that
sprayed all over your car
"The luxurious seats are specially contoured to allow you to drive for
long periods with maximum comfort"
==> But you'll need special boots to keep your feet from melting.
Engine temperature:
"Normal operating temperature will vary between 170F and 242F"
==> Sustained operation at "normal operating temperature" results
in overheating.
"To operate the heater or air conditioning the engine must be running"
==> Also, to go from point A to point B more easily, the engine
must be running.
"Anti-Theft steering column lock and ignition switch"
==> Stealing the entire car is pretty easy, but no one is getting
your steering column.
"The 'break-in' period of your car is simplified because of the advanced
engineering
and manufacturing techniques employed"
==> The car is broken from the factory.
I think this one is a typo:
"The ethylene glycol coolant, as installed at the factory will protect your
cooling
system down to below 45F"
==> This is because it'll all be boiled off due to overheating
before the first winter.
Caution note when checking the timing:
"Care should be exercised not to contact the fan or belts with the hand,
clothing, or the light
when engine is running"
==> A firm grip on the exhaust manifold is recommended, though.
Especially the right side which has a mis-installed valve to
insure it'll be really freakin' hot.
"The fuses for each circuit are as shown in the illustration with the
exception of the clock fuse
which is located in the spot marked accessory or spare"
===> We think labeling fuse box locations correctly is no fun.
"In addition to the many fine features built into your car, you receive at
no
added cost, the full benefits
of the Bricklin Service Protection Plan. This unique plan is designed to
provide you with service to your
car when you need it; anywehere in the United States, 24 hours a day, even
when a Bricklin Dealer
is not available in the area to help you"
==> You'll need this service because you WILL have problems 24/7.
This one's funny just because the stories tell that this rang in Mom
Bricklin's kitchen.
"If you are in doubt as to where to take your car or what to do, call this
toll free number: 1-800-528-4490,
and a Bricklin Vehicle Corp. representative will answer your call. You can
call anytime 24 hours a day"
