FWIW, when rebuilding my 64 Spitfire about 14 years ago I put in all new
hydraulics including brake lines and used Silicone because at that time it
was the new cure all. (Since then it has been debated over and over). Anyway
the short story is I have never had a problem with it, even when
autocrossing the car. The positive side to silicone is if you have a leak it
doesn't ruin the paint and on spitfires, due to the placement of the master
cylinders (brake and clutch) that is a big plus.
