thanks for your response. it did help a lot. i fitted the t-top to the
quarter panels and it turned out to be a good fit. the fiberglass t-top
that i ended up with is not quite wide enough to fit over the
protrusions for the door hinges. you know those four little bumps
sticking up from the birdcage. i started using a dremel type ball
cutter to increase the clearance inside the t-top in the hinge area.
the t-top must fit down so the flange on the fiberglass panel can be
riveted to the birdcage itself. i presume that the flange would then be
trimmed to be flush with the metal. even though i have not gotten the
door routine together, i am going to do some preliminary fitting of the
a-pillars to get some general guidlines for the door alignment.
i don't know what adhesive bricklin used but i have has a lot of luck
with 3m 5200. what is dyna-glass and is there a reason for not using
bondo at the joints? eventually i have to get info on where and what
kind of paint, primer and the sealer necessary to paint over the acrylic
quarters.
i have two sets of doors. i presume that one set is the original (74)
and i believe that the other set is 75. the original driver's door was
broken and repaired and the upper rear corner (not uncommon). the 75's
both have aditional reinforcement at that corner and it looks factory to
me. i do have the little boomerang shapes and i wonder if they are
necessary on the 75 doors. the reinforcement that is already there does
not goes as far toward the centerline of the car as the boomerangs
would. the other thing that i noticed on all four doors is that the
angle between the bottom of the door and the back edge is not the same
as the angle between the sill and the edge of the quarter panel; i.e.
the door can not line up right at the bottem and the back at the same
time.
it seems as though it would be hard to bend the door to solve this
situation and all four doors exhibit this same characteristic by the
same amount. am i missing something here? the door panel is not
"bigger enough" than the door to make both lines work. any ideas?
