I am thinking about having a second garage built. Are there features you
have found really useful that I should consider including?

Hey Scott. Consider the following:
1) Heater - I don't know if you're in one of those perpetually warm climates
or not, but up here in Canada, it makes a real difference!
2) Good compressed air system with a big reservoir, pressure regulator, and
maybe a few hard lines, depending on the size of your shop.
3) Filtered ventilation system if you plan on doing any painting. This can
be as simple as a blower with a furnace filter.
4) Hoist - this is pretty fancy-shmancy, but my uncle picked up an old
system at an auction for a pretty reasonable price. Even if you don't buy
and install one now, maybe have your floor reinforced and poured in such a
way that you could add this in the future.
5) Surface plate - This is pretty esoteric, but apparently you can buy a
system where you pour very low-viscosity epoxy onto your cement floor, and
it levels to within a thousandth of an inch or so, and then dries very hard.
Now you've got a *very* level and flat surface from which you can make
good measurements. This is helpful for doing chassis repairs or suspension
set-up.
Let us know how crazy you end up going! :)
Phil Martin.
