Hope someone finds this useful:

Install a check valve (Grainger # 6D914 or 6D917 depending on whether M
or F 1/4" NPT threads, about $6.00) somewhere between your compressor and
the tank. This will stop back flow of pressure into the compressor, thus
extending the life of the compressor, and possibly saving some air that
may be leaking back out through a compressor.
This should also help with that moisture problem that some of you have
reported is ruining compressors, by keeping the moist compressed air in
the tank. 

Did you hug your Bricklin today???
