Any body done the swap of the AMC rear to a Ford 9"? If so can I talk
you into writting a article for The Brickline.
I have a Ford 9", posi, with disk brakes sitting in the garage. I was
going to wait until after I had the car on the road to look at the
conversion. However, after being beaten up for about 3 days over the
Xmas holidays by my dad and neighbor, I caved in. I've started cleaning
it up and trying to get ready to put it in the car.
The 1st problem I have with it, is attaching the drive shaft. Tthe AMC rear
has a yoke (for lack of a better term) comming out the front (I think thats
the pinion shaft). Anyway, the AMC's yoke is set up to take a U joint and
the U joint is held in place by 2 U bolts. On the Ford rear end, I don't
have a yoke. (And NO wise cracks from the peanut gallery about the yoke
being on me.) What is on this rear end is a flat plate with 4 holes drilled
in it. Consiquently, the drive shaft has a flange on the U joint to mate
to the flange on the rear. Several people I tried to explain this to thought
I was nuts. I couldn't understand their lack of understanding since ALL
my other cars (with the exception of the front wheel drive cars and the CV
joints - and even some of them have the flanges) have this flange type of
arrangement and NOT the yoke.
So I guess the question is, where do I go about trying to find a yoke that
will fit the Ford 9". I don't really want to cut up my drive shaft.
