The vacuum pumps seem to have personalities of their own. Mine old one was
very dependable, but the new one is not so good. The pumps need at least 18
or 19 inches of vacuum to operate, and some of them seem to want more in order
to operate consistently. They are also known to occasionally "stick." Take a
hammer and try giving it a few light taps it will probably start up. About 2
yrs ago, I asked Terry about a new pump. He was pushing the electric, and
although that is probably the way to go, I didn't want to spring for it at the
time. I called Hadley and although they no longer make the vacuum pumps, they
referred me to their "ordering warehouse," which still had a few. It is a
model number 841 and I think it was around $80-$100. Try calling
800-968-4781, or 616-530-1717. They might also have a repair kit for them, I
can't remember. As far as the electric pumps go, I plan to get them from
Terry because he has tried a lot of them and knows what will work; and it is
good idea to support the Bricklin vendors.
