IMHO....
I enjoy interesting cars. I especially love to see ones that are
'different' or 'unusual'. I try not to 'look down' on any car, nor do I
support or endorse flaming of their owners. I know my Bricklin may not
be the most desired, expensive, or best car around, but I enjoy driving
it. I enjoy being the keeper of a small, possibly insignificant, portion
of automotive history. I enjoy the attention it attracts. I also enjoy
the comraderie of ALL car lovers, and the forums they develop. I am
responding to this conversation in an attempt to pre-empt any e-mail
flaming. I would hate to see this wonderful forum degrade into a 'my car
is better than your car' conversation thread. Perhaps I'm being too
sensitive, and am reading more into the e-mail than there is. In any
case, I suggest that comments in this vein be kept out of this forum.
The Bricklin actually started as a 4 cylinder car, which was eventually
changed to a 6 cylinder, THEN an 8. It was intended to be the 'poor
man's Corvette'. And while Malcolm Bricklin was not a professional auto
manufacturer when he started, his ambition (and ego) certainly rank
right up there in my opinion. Keep in mind that those safety features
were cutting edge at the time, and the materials to build the car
(acrylics) had never been used in that combination before. They were
inventing the technology as they went along! Certainly, you must give
the man (and the car) credit for putting many unemployed people to work
based on one man's dream (and a song and dance act!!). The DeLorean is
also car of great merit. It too was built with materials previously not
used, and with the gull-wing doors from Bricklin and Mercedes-Benz fame.
The fact that it was not designed as a muscle car, but as more of a
sports car doesn't detract from its charm in any way in my opinion.
