Starter thing mounted to the passenger side Fender well near the

There is the small round thing with 4 posts on it.  I believe it is the
starter relay or ignition module or something.
Well,  I unplugged two of the wires and the car still starts.  This goes
against everything I understand about relays.  WOuld anyone know why
this is happening.  The car turns over with significant power and starts
when my fuel pump works.  I would think that the two outer posts would
have to be connected to something for the car to turn over and then
start.  But it does!?!
