I noticed that previously on my car that It wouldn't stay running. I
replaced quite a bit of gear on the inlet side of the engine (carb,
intake manifold, fueld pump, fuel filter, fuel lines) and although it
would idle better it would still die. After kicking the car repeatedly
for a few minutes for misbehaving I decided to start testing spark. The
spark was there, but didn't seem strong. I replaced the coil (I
replaced with a supercoil, but I am sure that is not necessary) and the
engine fired and ran smoothly. I would check the voltage at the coil
and see if it wavers or starts to drop. I noticed on my old one that
when it got hot was when the car would start to die.
Another question. When I purchased the car it had an electric fuel
pump. After a few hours of use, the new looking fuel pump died. I
purchased a new electric fuel pump a few weeks ago, and after a combined
use of about three hours, it has now died. Could there be blockage in
the fuel line? The car ran fine for the three hours that it did so. It
isn't the power because the car turns over nicely. The fuel pump just
stopped making noise and died. Are Electric Fuel pumps supposed to make
noise? Does anyone strongly recommend going back to the mechanical fuel
pump?

Whoa, these cars! Today I got the door ajar switches to work, the
passenger solenoid and latch to work, the wiper motor to park and do two
speeds (and you may want to grease your worm gear, if you know what I
mean), and some other stuff working that I can't remember. Is my guess
right that the switch on the driver's door to the rear (there is the
door ajar switch to the front) is the one that lights up the interior
lights (something I didn't even know these had, you know, for safety
reasons because someone may use them when driving!)
But my main question is something that happened when I drove the car
today and later when it idled. Suddenly and without warning the engine
just flat dies. When it happened while driving I think that it was
after a stop and, wham. I Immediately pulled over but it started right
away, so quickly and properly that I thought that I was mistaken, that
maybe I had just maybe put it in neutral or something. So, the rest of
the ride was normal, with a couple of starts, city driving for about 6
miles, etc. But, when I did the ajar switches and passenger latch, and
wanted to check everything, I started the car and idled it and wham, it
stopped after about 6 -10 minutes, the same amount of time when it
stopped before. Whe I say stopped I don't mean that it coughed or
stuttered. it just flat out stops. It seems like it is likely
electrical because when I start it there is no delay like one would
expect with having a fuel problem and having the bowls fill up. Any
ideas?
