Alpine Loop Run & Raffle August 11
In the January 2007 Newsletter Bill Van Moorhem recounts how the BMCU
was formed as a result of an Alpine Loop drive in summer 1998. That
means ta dah! this is years run is the twentieth edition of this
epic event!
In Bills words, At that time Alpine was a rural community and the
Alpine Store was a tiny, rather seedy, Mom and Pop operation, with
farmland on the other three corners. We stopped there for gas and a pit
stop, before heading over the loop. Although the store and the
intersection have changed, the stop is still made ....
Indeed, well be recreating the run pretty much as we have done for the
past few years rendezvous at 9am in the east parking lot of South
Towne Shopping Center at 90th South between State Street and I-15. There
we will ogle the terrific raffle prizes (more on this later) and retail
lots of tickets, and depart at 10am.
Then well sortie down State Street shunpiking I-15 over Point of the
Mountain to Lehi, whence well head east to our secondary rendezvous at
the Alpine Chevron station, about 10:30am Lucas time. After input and
output (computer talk), well head up the canyon past Timpanogos Cave.
At the toll station remember the magic words transit only to waive the
park fee unless youre feeling munificent!
Once weve summitted, rolled past Robbie Redfords resort, and joined
the Provo Canyon highway, its on to Heber City where well picnic and
dispense the raffle prizes on the green space at 100 West and Center St..
Speaking of which, Larry, Mary and Suzanne Bishop have been strong
arming lots of suppliers and benefactors, so great stuff will find new
homes. Rumor has it this may even include a coveted GoF West 2007 tweed cap!
