Most every aftermarket pad maker has a "street", a "street plus", and a "track"
pad. The street is supposed to work well cold, have a somewhat higher
coefficient of friction than OEM, and maybe a tad more fade resistance while
producing minimal dust and no squeal. Track pads are designed to work great
hot at the expense of squeal, dust and rotor wear.
I have only tried the Porterfield R4S on the rear of my MR2 in an experiment to
even out the heavy front brake bias. Seeing as it was a bit more effective
than I wanted, I would say these bite a little harder than stock. I have no
problems with squeal, while dust is much greater than the oem Toyota pads
(almost no dust) but not much worse than something like an OEM BMW pad. The
dust is a kind of reddish brown color. I never tried the Metalmasters, but
they claim the dust is white making it all but invisible.
I got my Porterfields from stranoparts.com if you want a supplier who supports
our hobby...

Subject: Any recommendations on Brake Pads?
I am about to do the brakes on my Miata. Does anyone have any recommendations
or personal experiences with different brands?
I have been thinking about the following
Axxis Metal Master
Axxis Ultimate
EBC Green stuff Kevlar
Hawk
I realize that for autocross the stock pads are fine. What I want an
improvement
in is for stopping power at freeway speeds. However I don't want pads that will
increase peddle effort or need warming up before they work. I also don't want
them to be noisy.
Any recommendations?
