Jim has been promising me a copy of this tape FOREVER. Jim? Copy? Please?
For the record - I was NOT fast in Jim's car - I was sideways. I think
that's why it was fun footage to watch. I recall having Jim's car at like
30degrees to the straight down the entire straight and chanting "this is
insane, this is insane!"
And my fast and agressive hands were a BAD habit formed by (over)driving
that yellow FWD car. That car also taught my to stomp the gas exiting
corners - another bad habit. Both habits were cured pretty quickly in the
s2000.
As for seeing what runs were faster - you can pretty easily get times and
segment times from the video.

Subject: In Car Footage
For Thanksgiving, we Kellys sat around the tube and
watched some in car footage of Jim Ochi, Sean O'Boyle,
and me autox Jim's BMW at an event in Marina. I've had
this video for quite some time, but this was the first
time I'd ever seen it. The most entertaining parts
were watching Sean drive, and his immediate reaction
after each run, like, "OH MY GOD! THIS CAR IS SO
FAST!"
I have to say, watching yourself drive is quite
educational. What I learned from this is that the
fastest way through a slalom, and you can see this
visually, is to hold a constant speed through out.
When I finally figured that out, I went a full second
faster. That way, you're not upsetting the car's
momentum. I guess I knew this, but I haven't really
practiced it. I must work on this.
Sean and Jim were also much more exciting drivers.
Both really attacked the turns, though sometimes Jim
did so a little bit too much. :)
I had no idea just how slow I looked in the car. This
was disappointing. I always thought I looked rather
flamboyant, but this is not the case! For one, I steer
very slowly. I just had no idea. Sean, on the other
hand, steers very quickly and aggressively, yet also
smoothly. He was just on the gas a lot harder than I
was. And I never got the car to make really exciting
rev sounds. Like, some people do this womp womp womp
thing, and it sounds really cool, but me, no. It's
just not in me. I don't have that fire. Sure, the car
revs and all, but only once, very slowly, so you don't
even really notice that I'm accelerating. I'm thinking
that MAYBE, instead of getting on the gas hard I get
on it just a little bit earlier? Either way, this was
some of the most boring video footage I have EVER
seen.
This isn't even something I'd want to show my friends,
only my family. My dad even offered me some driving
advice to help me go faster. That's how slow I looked.
The irony was, that was a good driving day for me as I
remembered it, or so I thought.
