It does seem ridiculous on the surface, but when you scratch a bit deeper you
realize that these tires are a step away from true "race" tires. These tires
are DOT approved, are legal to drive on the street, and have [at least some]
tread on them.
If you got true racing slicks they'd have no tread whatsoever and they'd grip
even better -- and they would not be DOT approved, and they would NOT be legal
to use on the street.
Is this splitting hairs? Or a meaningful difference? Depends on your
perspective.
