I need help with understanding Tire options for F STOCK class.
In particular for a 97 Z28 Camaro as Next season I want to run
FS and not FS-N which requires a street tire.
I looked in section 13.3 Tires but it is a bit confusing.
It states "No tire models are currently listed." for being disqualified in
section A
But it also says in "E. No racing tire or recap (on any casing) may be used. "
But I know that most everyone uses Kumho or Hoosier tires.
Are they not considered a racing tire?
Its description says:
"Kumho V700 Victoracer
The V700 is today's competition member of the Kumho ECSTA high performance tire
family. It is a DOT legal race winning tire which,
by capturing national championships at the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA)
Tire Rack Solo II Nationals and the Valvoline Road
Racing Runoffs in 1998, has again proven its capabilities in both autocross and
road racing competition."
Sounds like a race tire...
I wanted to get the Kumho V700 Victoracer but my current tire size as optioned
by the factory was a 245/50ZR16 and they do not make that size tire in Kumho
or Hoosier.
They show:
Size Rim Rim Sect Tread Overall
width width width width Diam.
range
225/50ZR16 - 6-7.5" 7" 9.2" 8.6" 24.6" Kumho
VictoRacer V700
245/45ZR16 - 7.5-9" 8" 9.7" 9.1" 24.3" Kumho
VictoRacer V700
265/45ZR16 - 8-10" 9" 10.4" 9.9" 25.3" Kumho
VictoRacer V700
245/50ZR16 - 6.5-9.5 7.5" 10" 9" 25.7" My Stock
GoodYear GSC
My Wheels are 16' X 8"
So my question is what tire can I use and be OK for Solo II FS class?
I was thinking about the 265/45ZR16 as it is closest to my diameter at just
.4" smaller than stock where the others are 1.1 and 1.4 inches smaller diameter
and would set me lower and make the engine RPM a bit higher (marginal).
However the 265/45ZR16 has a .4 inch wider section width and .9" wider tread.
I think it should clear OK but is it SCCA Solo II legal for FS class as it is a
different tire size than stock?
What are the rulings on this or is it just the wheel size that matters and not
the tire?
