We had a great day at Thunderhill! The turn out was great. I don't have an
exact count, but it looked like about 60 cars. The temp was around 46 all
day, but no rain. We had problems with the timing equipment in the morning,
but everybody got one or two timed laps. In the afternoon we separated
everyone in 3 groups and had open track sessions. The slow group was only
passing in the straights. The other 2 groups had more passing zones. Most
people opted for the middle group. The fast group was basically for people
under 2:20 lap times.
Jeff Glorioso and I had great fun in the fast group. I had no idea he was
road racer! As advertised, I got into 2:05s. 2:05.05 to be exact. I think
that was the fastest time for a door-slammer. That's if you don't count the
little Europa as a door-slammer. There was also a formula car. I think
that one got the TTOD.
Judging by how many people showed up in the middle of December for this
event, I think there is enough interest for this kind of format. Although,
if Thunderhill is interested in continuing this program, they need to supply
transponders for the cars.
