SCCA has announced a press conference for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at
the Metropolitan Topeka Airport Authority Administration Building at Forbes
Field, Topeka, KS.

It will feature:
Steve Johnson, SCCA president
Kansas Governor Bill Graves
MTAA President David Stremming
Topeka Mayor Butch Felker
and Airport commissioners Vic Miller, Ted Ensley, and Merris Kane.

You get one (1) guess about what they're going to be saying.

Topeka is the Kansas state capital.
Forbes Field has one, possibly two, scheduled air flights each day,
commuter service to Kansas City Airport. By car Kansas City Airport is
about an hour's drive.

Topeka is also home to Heartland Park, a noted road course, NHRA drag
strip, and when they add a temporary clay surface, a dirt track for the
World of Outlaws.
Forbes Field has been hosting the Solo II Nationals for the past
4-5 years on a retired and tired tiedown area.
After Heartland Park was built some 10 years ago, a Topeka
contingent appeared at several SCCA National conventions to persuade SCCA
to move from Road Atlanta to Topeka. Mid-Ohio was selected instead. Should
the Valvoline Runoffs move to Heartland, the tow for west coast drivers
will be shortened considerably. And maybe west coast SCCA National point
races will attract a larger entry.

        Stay tuned.
