I've been told that there was a sequel called "Race Drivin'".  They
occasionally show up on eBay.  I don't think that there's been an
arcade driving game since that has been designed for realism (okay, so
the loop-the-loop isn't a realistic race course feature, but it sure
modeled it correctly!).

Viper Racing from Sierra, used with a force feedback steering wheel,
reminds me of Hard Drivin'.  As you said, a crude, beastly RWD thing.
Viper Racing being significantly more difficult because of the higher
power to traction ratio...speaking of which, I tried the GPL demo and
found it insanely difficult.  And that was just with the "trainer"
car, which supposedly has about 1/3 or 1/4 of the power of the Grand
Prix cars.  Eep!
