Hi Rob-
Yes, I'm going:-) The Concours D'Italia is on Friday (Aug. 18) at Quail
Lodge in Carmel Valley. Get there early (like before 8AM -- no problem
-- you're an autocrosser, right?!) so you can park somewhere nearby.
The Pebble Beach Concours is Sunday, Aug. 20 at the Pebble Beach Golf
Course. If you've never been, it's quite a spectacle. Be warned -- it's a
nightmare to get to -- you'll need to get on a shuttle bus etc., and it costs
about $50 to get in, which is, however, a charitable donation. The Italian
Concours is about $25, which I think is pretty darn cheap for the
opportunity to wonder aloud "Could there possibly be such a thing as too
many Ferraris?", and is also the only place I've ever seen 2 F50s and 3-4
F40s together...
Also, of course, the vintage races. If you can swing it, wander over Friday
afternoon after the concours. It's a nice mellow day with far fewer
spectators than the weekend, and lots of opportuntiy to talk to car owners.
The races are on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, with warm-ups each
morning. Everyone gets a practice session on Friday. Great vendor area
too, for all sorts of cool car memorabilia and trinkets.
Hope you get to go,
EJ
