Okay, let's put together some of the ideas that have surfaced so far to help
our insurance concerns in order of my preference:
1. Slow down the stock classes due to the technology improvements in stock -
since this class is used as one of the speed measurements to ensure that a
course is considered relatively "safe". Stock cars are going faster now than
many of the higher prepared classes - NOT GOOD. If we take away BOTH the DOT
slicks AND the expensive shocks (used to max the capabilities of the DOT
slicks) with a cost controlled industry OEM replacement, we have used one
possible way to slow stock classes down. Other speed reducing methods may
prove to be better. A side benefit is lower starting cost which translates to
more entries. The closer to stock you become the more will come out.
2. Increase the distance margins for both objects and people - this is not a
really good choice as it limits the selection of sites and we are already in
desperate need of good sites now.
3. Tighten up the courses - this is NOT desirable at all as it will hurt the
fun factor and kill our sport.
I may have missed some other measures for helping our insurance concerns.
The bottom line here = improving our safety margins will minimize the chance
that the insurance industry will come down on us. This has to be our PRIME
DIRECTIVE or we die -- simply put. It is this serious an issue.
BTW, I am a MOD driver who will be impacted as well as the rest of the solo
community by whatever happens on this issue so I DO have the right to speak as
several people on this list said that I did NOT have this right and you know
who you are.
