Trust me, we'll catch up. No foolin'

Into the mail earlier this week went the March 2004 edition of North
American Pylon.

        This month we cover the three opening events of Mazda's Rev-It-Up
series at Alameda (CA) Point, Orange County (CA) and San Diego, CA.
        We put ex-Super Vee racer Mike McHugh on the cover because he won
SM-2 at San Francisco Region's Round 3, held March 7 at Candlestick Park,
SF. We have stories on both Rounds 2 and 3 by SF Region.
        We cover National Tour events at Fort Myers, FL, and San Diego, CA.
Both with complete results.
        Plus we cover the Pro Solo at San Bernardino, CA. Tom Harrington
was the overall winner in his go-kart.
        SEB member Andy Hollis provides 10 driving tips.
        The SCCA-sanctioned Drift contest at Irwindale (CA) Speedway
attracted 10,000 paying spectators.
        Mike Maier, Mustang, sets FTD at the American Autocross Series
event in Atwater, CA.
        Plus we have a special all-photo Salute section on C Prepared
covering the guys who didn't go home with trophies.

        Pat Kelly deals with ST classes and the need for "140" tires.
        Editor John Kelly touches ever so lightly the SEB's re-shuffle of D
and E Prepared.

Then he compares that with the previous failed attempt at bringing Mini
Pickups into autocrossing. 
        Lorenzo the Scribe (PA) digs into Street Mod and SM-2, both now
official classes.
        Abner Perney (KS) travels to Portland, Oregon.
        Eric Salem (NE) thinks the SEB's Factory Shop Manual requirement in
Stock is good (sort of)  but in Prepared it isn't good. A Porsche FSM will
cost you $1200, for example.
        Ralph Stephens, a professor of mechanical engineering at Iowa State
U in Ames, IA, tieing his courses into various forms of auto racing
provides addtional interest for his students. He himself has taken up
autocrossing at an age when many folks move to Florida.

Next month we'll delve into the deal of adding 200 pounds across the board
to all D Mod cars? Why is this proposed? Seems like several people who are
not running in the class want everybody who is already there to add weight.
As the 2003 D Mod field saw 27 cars in the base class and 3 in DML, you're
invited to contribute your opinion for our next issue. Present DM rules
allow engines up to 2.0 liters with a minimum weight of 1000 pounds.
