I read these lists via digest so excuse me if someone has already pointed this
out...
BMW and MINIUSA do support our sport with contingency money, they just are not
administered by the SCCA. We received nice sized 1099s for filing with Uncle
Sam this year for 2003 winnings. Also, if you go to the MINIUSA.COM web page,
look under the "Motor On" menu for "Freestyle racing" and you will find, among
other things: basic competitive driving instructions, links to racing
organizations like the SCCA, results from Nationals and the ProSolo Series, and
the 2004 contingency program. I think the web page promotes our sport in a
responsible way. As to the advertisements, I think like most of the MINI ads
they are intended as somewhat tounge in cheek. I suspect the lawyers, if
consulted, would have preferred a disclaimer at the bottom directing people to
autorized events. Nevertheless, MINI does recognize and promote the SCCA and
similar organizations already.
