Here are some modifications. Run a dash switch to the alternator. Switch
it off just before a run. Losing the parasitic drag of an alternator is
worth a few thousandths of a second on a 30 second course. Run CO2 in your
tires, or Nitrogen if you have the money. Both gases expand less than air
in a hot tire, and provide consistancy from start to finish in a run. Seal
all the door, hood, trunk seams to prevent air infiltration and parasitic
drag. Worth a few thousandths. Pull the fuses on windshield wipers, horn,
turn signals, etc. to aid in concentration. Turn the rear view mirrors into
the door. Less parasitic drag is worth a few thousandths. Empty the
coolant, block off the heater, and refill. Less coolant weight is worth a
few thousandths. Empty the windshield washer and overflow tanks for the
same reason. Ditto for running as small a gas load as you can. If the car
has ever run on the highway, power wash the entire car, in the body
cavities, underneath, wheel wells, rocker panels, etc. Make sure the drain
holes are working. You can get lots of water and crud (and weight) trapped
in a car body. You can lessen friction, subtract weight, enhance
concentration, and increase consistancy with attention to detail.
