...Just following this thread, you seem to me to be putting up contradictory
arguments. I'll paraphrase:
1) "Why isn't the National office doing more to open our sport up to
newcomers."
2) "We shouldn't allow any any bozo to complete at Nationals without
qualifying."...
I would make a distinction between a regional SoloII event and a once-a-year
event like the Nationals. I would say that participation at the Nationals
(since it is the championship) is by definition "not for everybody" (as
opposed to a regular regional autocross event)
...The other thing I'm surprised no one reminded Hugh of is that new member
attraction and retention is primarily a Regional responsibility. Hugh, if
you see a need for improvement and have some solutions, YOU should get on
your regions board and put these measured into place. There IS a place for
newcomers....right under your nose. You can have a significant impact on
newcomer policies, classing, and treatment and help your region a bunch.
This is the point to a regional/chapter type organizational structure, and
this is where it belongs....not in Topeka.....
Our new president has stated in several interviews that we need to do more
to attract new folks, that our membership is "greying". Based on that, I
would think we might see some initiative/leadership coming out of Topeka on
this issue.
...I won't tackle the other points, like how do you qualify for Nationals if
you don't get everyone together at one event.....
You would not get everybody together at one event. As I stated, you could
use Divisionals as a qualifying mechanism, or regional standings, or some
combination.
