How about classifying drivers instead of cars? Make a novice class A,
local winner class B, local seasonal champion class C, regional/divisional
winner class D, regional/divisional champion class E, Tour winner class F,
and National champion class G. You can then classify their cars into 9
different stock performance subcategories, 1 being similar to the current G
Stock and 9 similar to the current Super Stock class. The formula and
special built cars would be 10 through 20. Have a point system for
modifications to the cars, starting with a) for unmodified and z) for all
components changed. Tires would be a special category because of the
tremendous effect they have on handling, so the next subcategory would be
t1) through t10) based on treadwear and compound. A winner in the novice
(A) class would have a (w) put on the end of the classification, and after 6
wins would move to the (B) class. Two wins in any other class automatically
moves you up to the next class. The only down side I see to this would be
the lettering on the cars. Calling in a cone count on C6mt4w26 might be
awkward.
