Frankly I think it's a good and fair solution to a portioning out a
limited resource. Also the same press release increased the number of
entries in the Finale from 225 to 250 so the number of people who don't
get to run are probably going to be few and far between.
WRT changing the rules in the middle of the season you obviously
haven't been running Pros long, have you? This is far from the first
time that something like this has happened. In fact we used to call
these mid-season rules adjustments the "Howard rule" since Howard rules
(or at least used to) the series :-).
Remember also the Finale is intended to select the winners of our
sport, it is not intended to be a warm-up for Nationals. IMHO if you
can't reasonably place in the top 3 after the Finale then you don't
have much of a leg to stand on. Now as to whether the current points
system is fair or not, that is a whole different subject, but under the
current system geographic desparities, weather, mechanical problems or
fast co-drivers are not excuses, sorry.
I encourage those that like the solution to also call (or write) and
let Tasha and Howard know, that way they will have a good cross-section
to know how the autocross public feels.
