Especially if you are going to allow alternate rims diameters. Plenty of 8.5
x 16 wheels available. Still tire size challenges, but it would be better I

Well, I think the 1.5" idea helps to level the field in the vintage
realm. As we know, the manufacturers slowly started figuring out that a
wider wheel helped handling, so those with
the "older" vintage cars don't have the benefit of the "later
knowledge" I believe the early
MGBs came with a 4.5" steel rim! Wires were at 5", thats one reason they
were popular...
That being said, you should address the "wire wheel conversion" issue
if this class is a go.
Wires often were larger and had a different "track" than steel rims.
Been racing vintage alot....
