I'd like to jump in too about MyAutoEvents.com (MAE)!
I chair autocross events for an independent club, not based on SCCA rules at
all. I'm also our club's web master. Last year I started thinking about
ways I could web-enable our registration process. The thought of building
all that was needed was daunting. Then someone, probably on this list,
pointed me to Steve's web site. What a life saver!
I looked things over, had a number of conversations with Steve, and even
offered suggestions (which many were implemented). Back in May 2002 we did
our first event using the system, a high-speed autocross (Solo I) and Wheel
to Wheel race weekend. The site worked great and collected every little
piece of information we could need! Through the rest of the 2002 season we
sporadically used MAE for bigger events. In 2003, the on-line registration
will be HEAVILY prompted for ALL events.
Having used the site for a season, I have no SPAM or privacy concerns that I
can attribute to the site.
Someone mentioned the use of PayPal. PayPal is only used to process your
credit card. While there is the same risk as any other online payment
place, it does NOT require you to have a PayPal account, or have money saved
with PayPal.
Steve does collect a portion of all fees paid through the site. I see
nothing wrong with that. He spent the dime to build it, and saved many club
web masters a TON of time.
To list the features in MAE is way too long. I start to drool every time I
think of everything it does. But I'd encourage all clubs to take advantage
of the site.
