I've heard people in my region say much the same thing. At the same time,
I was breaking in as a novice (never Rookie!) autoxer, and I never noticed
any of this aloofness. I think that it may be a bit much to expect people
to make the advances; but certainly I never encountered any lack of
assistance or cold-shoulder within the SFR (before they knew me, that is!
[g]). Quite the opposite, in fact - once *I* approached them. Give it a
try, the worst that can happen is getting hit with a lug wrench or
something.
