>>and compare that to
the winning Miata with its mild engine, rubber bushings, basic shocks, etc.
Remember that the Miata has great geometry. A car with poor geometry is made
fast by making it solid and stiff. A car with good geometry is made fast by
letting the suspension do the work. As a point of reference Bob Boig's
championship winning EP RR Miata uses stock suspension pickup points and not
very stiff springs - his past comments were that "it cannot be improved".
Just because the winning Miata uses stock suspension - don't think it hasn't
been sorted.
The same somewhat goes for the engine. The head doesn't need huge hogged out
ports or monster cams because the factory stuff is that good. Comes with
solid lifters, forged crank, main bearing support plate, windage tray, 10:1
cr pistons, and great intake ports from the factory. The Miata engine doesn't
take that much incremental money to get into competitive autocross trim (high
torque) and spending gobs more doesn't gain anything usefull. BTDT, have the
t-shirt and the dyno plots to prove it.
