For most people who live far away, it's too risky to build a car and travel that far for something that could go away in a year. I'm sure the SM2 folks in the rest of the US are thankful for proximity of new SM2 entrants living near Topeka since that's likely to be the thing that gives SM2 enough breathing room to mature. Otherwise, it might have been a repeat of STR (which I think could have worked given more time).
