Does anyone give credence to John Kelly's monthly rant
in Pylon?
This month he wades into the very existence of NASA/X
without a shred of evidence to support himself. He is
wrong on every point.
This is especially silly since only one NASA/X chapter
has ever existed and he well knows how to call us if
he wants any facts for his "newspaper". There is only
one NASA/X chapter lising in all of his newspaper. I
think this is information readily available to him
should he care to research that far.
He hasn't called. Ever.
He has been aware of every move we have made over the
years since we share sites and autocrossers. This
whole thing is just so dishonest.
I haven't tried to write for him for years. He "edits"
the stuff very aggressively. The new slant seldom is
what I wanted to say. When he wrote for another
newspaper and was "edited" he called it "censorship",
but somehow things are not all on a level field
methinks. So others write for him now. Free market
economics at it's best.

FWIW, the local NASA/X series was setup for two
reasons:
1. The local council of clubs had long run a
multi-club rotation series and had gone away. We had
enjoyed this and revived the tradition. At its core
NASA is an Association of small clubs long before they
got into "pro" activities. The annual autocross funds
these small clubs and makes their existence possible.
This all is very like the three levels of SCCA; Pro,
Club, and Solo.
2, The local [SFR] region has not allowed Prepared and
Mod cars to run for about 8 years [except for a couple
very special owners!] and we wanted to play with our
silly, expensive, and otherwise useless toys. We use
NASA as an insurance medium. That is the only money
exchange between NASA and NASA/X. And there is no
markup in the insurance rate as their is in SCCA, a
really big deal when you average over 200 entrants per
event.

There is no profit in the series. Never was. We give
generously to local charities, about $10K a year.
SFRSCCA is far from that involved in community
services.
The trailer of stuff cost me about $20K [it took the
place of the DP Miata I wanted to build] and I rent it
out at $200 a month the the hosting club of the event.
The 4 months earmarked for charity pay no trailer
rent. Even in a "liberal newsman's" view that is
hardly capitalistic greed!

I cannot understand why John attacks thusly. A slow
news month in June?
