I have a turbo Miata that I run in SM2 in Houston Region and similar
classes elsewhere. I finally killed off my 225-50-13 road-race compound
Hoosiers. I need to get new 13" DOT racing tires. I've wandered around
tirerack.com a lot lately. :-) I'm down to 235-45-13 new-style Kumhos or
225-50-13 autox-compound Hoosiers. I figure I should get them heat-cycled
since my wheels aren't streetworthy.
I feel that 225-45-13 Hoosiers are too short and therefore the contact
patch orientation is bad for putting down turbo power. IIRC, that size is
for small cars with small power (nothing wrong with that). ;-) I could
barely put down power with the tires I had. I've seen the black stripes.
:-) I'm soliciting advice from the collective.
Here are some general specs on the car: It's fully streetworthy with a
decent alignment. The bushings could use some help. The springs are
shorter than stock and the sways are bigger than stock. It's a piggy at
2400+ lbs. The turbo kit and roll bar are heavy. :-( Wheel HP is 230 on a
warm humid day. The autox wheels are 13 x 8 Keizers.
Any advice is appreciated.
