That's a neat idea in an academic sense but what about the dedicated,
regular members (not necessarily the event chiefs but rather the people who
regularly show up early to set up, stay late to tear down, are ready to
volunteer for extra work on a moment's notice, etc)? If the price became
prohibitive (and sometimes the most dedicated are the ones with the least
financial means), they'd feel awfully burnt by an organization that spit on
their dedication. All because a bunch of new people show up, some of whom
will never compete in a local championship event.
Seems to me most of the limited practice spots should go to regular
competitors, and the remainder for the more casual participants. With the
turnouts we get, fun runs can't be counted on and championship days are
rarely over 3 runs. If one wants some test-n-tune or some coaching, it has
to be on practice days. Comments?
