Pro Rally cars have run the Peak in the past, with great success, but not in
a Pro Rally class or for points. And it was only a couple of cars that "made
a statement," not the entire class.
As I understand it, this time it will be a limited entry -- Open and Gp. N
only -- but for points for all of those that show up.
Of course, whatever I "understand" is definitely unofficial and could even
be erroneous -- either because I got it wrong or because between now and
later subsequent decisions make it wrong. My info is a little more recent
than anything anyone may have read somewhere, but when SCCA announces the
format, then you'll know for sure.
I guess one question could be, class points may be awarded in O and N, but
will overall points be awarded since no one in other classes will have a
shot? Then again, while a lucky Prod or Gp 2 driver may miss out on 3 or 4
points, the winner's points would be taken by an Open car in any event. In
fact, with a "one-stage rally," it is less likely that a driver outside Open
or N would work up into a points-paying position other than show-up points.
The real value, of course, is exposure for Pro Rally at a high-profile
venue.
