All:
Sooner or later all good things must end. And so it does for me here at
Group W Network Services.
At the end of August, the Speedvision and Outdoor Life networks advised my
company that they would not extend their contracts for our broadcast
origination and transmission. It was a major loss for the company. In
October, we were advised that more than 50% of the employees would be
downsized (laid off/canned/exorcised). I ended up being one of the folks
getting cut. I will be retained until the switch is made to Fox's Technical
Operations Center out in LA.
It was fun to work for Speedvision. I was able to air a lot of awesome
automobile stuff. Yeah, there were the garbage commercials and infomercials
in there, too (don't buy ANYTHING from an infomercial, it WILL be junk). I
was paid to switch Formula One, SCCA Runoffs, IRL, Motorcycles, Rally, and
tons of other shows. Lucky in my book. I met a lot of nice, fun people, too.
To paraphrase the old quote: "One door closes, and another door will open."
So this door will be closing Thursday night (11/29). Yes, I'll probably be a
little misty about it. I won't be misty about not working overnights
anymore. :^) So I'll be looking for the next door to open. It might be in
TV, it might be in Automotive, or who knows?
So from here, you can still email me at the home domain mattm@optonline.net
and please delete the old mdmurray@gwns.com since it will be deactivated
after Thursday.
Thanks for all the nice words/comments over the years; it always helped in
the down times.
"And so it goes. . ."
Linda Ellerbee
Sincerely,
Matt Murray
